We have been successfully and enjoyably running our wine tasting tours in Lumbarda for several years now. This year we have decided to spread our wings further and offer even more fun activities for visitors to enjoy on Korcula. As always, we have designed the new tours around the things we love to do on the island and experiences we think will be fantastic for people visiting Korcula.
Posip Wine Tasting in Smokvica
So first up, there’s no escaping more wine tasting! This time we are heading over to Smokvica. This hillside village is located in the centre of Korcula Island and is well known for wine growing. Here, we will enjoy the beautiful views of the vineyards as we take a scenic drive around the valley known as the Posip Path.
After seeing where the grapes are grown, we will then see where the wine is made. We will be hosted by two young and knowledgeable winemakers. Both have followed in their family footsteps to make delicious wine from grapes grown in their own vineyards.
The most popular wine from this area is Posip. This crisp white wine is indigenous to Korcula Island, having been discovered by a local farmer in 1864. Its parents are two other local sorts. Due to the preference of Posip, these two other sorts are not commonly grown now. Growing in the vineyards, you will also find Rukatac and Plavac Mali (the most popular red wine from Croatia).
At the wineries we will taste several wines, including of course Posip and also Korcula’s only sparkling wine. During our tasting our hosts will explain more about wine production in the area, as well as their own personal stories. A wine tasting is even better served alongside some tasty treats. We will be try some local appetisers which pair brilliantly with the wine.
This tour is perfect for anyone wishing to see more of the island, experience life in a rural village and of course loves drinking wine.

Olive Oil & a Splash of Wine Tour
OK, you knew we had to squeeze some wine in there! The focus of this tour though is on the other fantastic fruit which grows plentiful across the island. Olives!
Lots of families across the island grow olives and you’ll find people out in force picking them during November. They produce enough olive oil for themselves and their family for the year. Olive oil from Korcula was added last year to the European Commission’s list of Protected Designations of Origin. You can see how important the golden nectar is to the island.
During this tour we will visit two towns which are highly credited for their olive oil production. Our first stop is in the town of Blato where we will visit one of the oldest wine & oil companies. Calling into their tasting room in the centre of town, we will enjoy olive oils, wines and a selection of authentic Dalmatian snacks.
Next we head 10 minutes up the main road to Vela Luka, where we will visit two family run mills. The first place also has a small museum housing traditional olive oil production equipment. We will learn about olive oil production in the area and about the families’ own traditions. At the museum, we will also sample their olive oil. The tastings by the second family however will take place in their olive grove.
From Vela Luka we take the winding country lanes past rows of olive trees before we come to a clearing and a small house. Here our host will greet us with a cup of olive tea before we wander around their land enjoying beautiful views and talking about the olive trees that grow here. Afterwards it’s back to the cosy house for a guided olive oil tasting on the terrace, surrounded by only untouched nature. It’s then time for the food, which will include a big helping of a delicious meat peka washed down with some local wine (of course!).
This tour would be ideal for anyone who would like to explore other parts of the island, which are not so often seen and who enjoys local products and food.

Taste of Korcula
Now as much as we love wine, we also love food! Thankfully there’s no shortage of good food on the island. This tour is all about exploring the island through our stomachs!
The exact details of this tour are still to be finalised (i.e. we need to keep eating a little more for research purposes!). What we can tell you for now is, it will include a cooking demo and class, it will include the fruits of the island (grapes and olives) and will include some tasty food dishes that are unique to Korcula.
Interested in the tour? Drop us an email and we’ll send you further details when we have everything planned out.
